Missouri Absentee Ballot Request
HELP MISSOURI'S 900,000 VOTERS WITH DISABILITIES
You can help a friend or family member with a disability make their
voices heard on Election Day. Here are three ways you can help them cast
their votes.
Help register and/or request an absentee ballot.
An estimated three-fourths of the disability community lacks Internet
access. So, take your personal laptop computer to their home to help them
register and/or request an absentee ballot online. More information on voter
registration and absentee ballots is posted at left and on the Missouri
Secretary of State website. And, you can always call the Secretary of
State's
Election Division at 573-751-2301.
Help find a ride to the polls. Disability groups may offer help for
disabled voters wanting to go to the polls. Could you contact a group in
your area and ask about rides to the polls on November 7th?
Remind and encourage your friend to vote. Disabilities drain energy;
being paralyzed, for example, is physically exhausting for anyone who tries
to live an active life. He or she may need a little extra encouragement to
take on the challenge of voting.
Make sure your vote counts on November 7th. Here is important
information every Missouri voter needs to know about registering to vote,
voting by absentee ballot and voting in person. For additional information,
please visit the Voter Information section of the Missouri Secretary of
State website
New Photo Identification Law
Earlier this year, the legislature passed a law that would require
Missouri voters to present one of the following state or federal
government-issued photo IDs to vote:
a.. Missouri driver's license;
b.. Missouri non-driver's license;
c.. U.S. passport; or
d.. Military ID (issued by U.S. Armed Forces, Missouri National
Guard or Veteran's Administration).
A legal challenge to this law has made it uncertain whether it will be
in effect this November. However, the safest course is to make sure that you
have a photo ID and take it with you when you vote.
Information on acceptable forms of voter identification is available
on the Secretary of State website.
