National Embryo Donation Center Awarded Federal Grant for PR by Steven Ertelt LifeNews.com Editor October 3, 2006 Knoxville, TN (LifeNews.com) -- An organization that works to raise awareness about the need to adopt frozen human embryos to save them from destruction or death through embryonic stem cell research has received two federal grants. The grants will help the National Embryo Donation Center promote public awareness of embryo donation and adoption. The center is in a partnership with Baptist Health System, which has just received two new cooperative agreements from the US Department of Health and Human Services to tout embryo adoption. The first new funded project will focus on the creation of professional meetings and the second will center on an evidence-based assessment of the embryo adoption field, the group said in a statement sent to LifeNews.com. Bethany Christian Services, the largest adoption agency in the United States, will also partner with the NEDC to provide a national forum for emerging issues related to embryo adoption and donation. Jeffrey Keenan, MD, medical director for the National Embryo Donation Center, said the grants will also help his organization create a national clearinghouse for literature, media and electronic data currently available on embryo adoption and donation. "We are pleased with the exciting work previous grants have allowed us to accomplish in increasing awareness about this important option for infertile couples, and we look forward to maintaining our leadership in this field," Keenan said. In partnership with Baptist Heath Systems, the NEDC was a recipient of an awareness grant in 2005, as well as a grant spanning 2005-2007. The group worked on those grants with Bethany and the Christian Medical & Dental Association to create informational brochures for fertility clinics and patients who wish to donate or receive embryos. President Bush stood with the familes of several babies who were born after embryo adoption when he vetoed a Congressional bill forcing taxpayers to pay for destructive embryonic stem cell research. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off Parkinsn send a message to: mailto:[log in to unmask] In the body of the message put: signoff parkinsn
