New research says an often dangerous drug can actually help key cells in the
brain grow.
A study found when embryonic stem cells were exposed to MDMA, or ecstasy, the
number of dopamine cells increased and were more likely to survive.
Dopamine is crucial for things like movement, balance, and emotion.
However, the experts are by no means suggesting to use the club drug to treat
diseases or for pregnant women.
They will use the information to do more studies on diseases like Parkinson’s.
In adult brains ecstasy actually caused dopamine cells to die leading to
decreased brain activity.
