In July 2006, HR 810, a bill that would have lifted limits on federal
funding for embryonic stem cell research was passed by the US Senate.
A year earlier, the House had passed its version. However the bills
were immediately vetoed by President Bush – his first veto since
taking office. The House failed to override his veto.

Supporters of ESCR vow to reintroduce a similar bill in the next
Congress. If stem cell research is an important issue to you, it is
important to know where the candidates stand – how they voted in the
past and how they can be expected to vote in the future. Here are
some good information sources on the web :

Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research

CAMR has compiled a helpful election guide: “Candidate Positions on
Federal Funding of Embryonic Stem Cell Research”

It contains responses from candidates explaining their position on
ESCR as well as information on how incumbent legislators voted on key
stem cell bills over the past two years.

provide):

Your Candidates, Your Health

http://www.yourcandidatesyourhealth.org/index.php

This web site has US Senate and House candidates’ responses to
questions on medical research and health issues. Question #10
is “Do you support federal funding for research using embryonic stem
cells?”
