In The Globe and Mail, first section, of two nights' ago, a top military 
brass's views on the Afganistan situation were quoted. In one sentence he 
morphed from "stepping up to the plate" to several common hockey metaphors, 
effectively saying nothing more about what is required than rah, rah, team. 
Too bad my house-proud partner recycled before I could copy the sentence 
out for my class--and for you.
