Alison, I had both eyes done last February, I think. It is no fun because I have ordeal-fatigue, and just having Parkinson's makes every thing harder. But it is quick and painless, even though your lens is removed and a new one is put in while you are awake. I still wear glasses, but was very near-sighted and my far vision has been improved 100%. Need reading glasses, but it is so nice to not have double vision. I am sure your sister will do fine and be glad she had it done. A nurse held my hand during the 15 minute removal of my lens and insertion of the new one. Before that they put drops in your eye to deaden it. You have one eye done and in a few weeks the other one. What you see is real interesting due to the blood - looks like a kaleidoscope. Afterwards don't put head down or bend over as her eye will probably be bloodshot. I had a little difficulty putting drops in my eyes before and after as my hands are like paws. I had my caregiver drive me there and home, but if I had had to I probably could have done it myself. They usually want someone else to take the patient home. I'll bet your doctors will very adequately prepare you with answers to all your questions. This procedure is one of the easy ones. Good luck. If so, would you have any suggestions that I might pass on to my sister, Fran. She has Parkinson's; diagnosed in 1998 at age 44. She needs to have cataract surgery on both eyes and the doctor has told her she is almost legally blind in one eye. Our cousin is a retina surgeon here in Florida and he has given us the names of 2 doctors that he respects as being competent in their field.
