Ray, The phase II GDNF trials using pump infusion delivery were indeed promising, but they were halted by the trial's sponsor - Amgen --in September 2004. PD Patients cannot receive this treatment. Also it never involved stem cells of any type. The company claimed the trials were stopped due to finding lesions in the brains of a few test monkeys. Some researchers believe the lesions were caused by sudden withdrawal from high doses of GDNF - not from the protein itself. There was no evidence of harmful side effects in the trial participants. Many patient advocates believe thhe trial was halted for economic reasons. Other delivery systems for GDNF are being studied, but they are all at the pre-clinical stage right now. At any rate - it doesn;t belong on this report. Also note the document doesn't state who is responsible for this report - only the "White House Domestic Policy Council" The report should be challenged, as the Prentice list was last year.
