Elderly diabetics suffer slow healing open wounds also. A friend of mine had foot surgery and due to his diabetes, the incisions refused to heal even after courses of antibiotics. Finally he was sent to a wound center that had a hyperberic chamber that applies oxygen under pressure to the body. After several treatments the wounds healed. Hyperberic chambers previously were used to treat the bends but recently it was discovered to be helpful for difficult wound healing in diabetics.
