Colleen. At age 43 I had stage 2 ovarian cancer in 1979-80, but didn't get
PD until 1996. One disease is enough to handle, but two at once must be
more than a challenge. I have always thought the chemo + a genetic
predisposition to PD may have caused the PD. Although I have had these
diseases separately, I did continue teaching in an inner-city school when I
was on chemo for the cancer. My oncologist wanted me to muddle through and
I did need to work to keep my health insurance. Once when I was having a
particularly hard time his nurse told me to "roll with the punches". In
2003 I had 2 DBS brain surgeries to control my tremors. At age 71 my
survival is 100% for both diseases. Good luck today and hang in there.
