Hey Inkhsedders--- Finally, a READER for technical communication, not
just a how-to textbook~!  Although a textbook is important, I have
always looked for something my students can discuss, debate and ponder
about the rhetoric of technical communication, to add to a text from
which they take instruction. Something with this much Canadian content
is a real bonus. Thank you, Jennifer MacLennan, for contributing this
to our field!

*Oxford** University** Press is pleased to announce the publication of
Jennifer MacLennan's**/ /*

*/Readings for Technical Communication./*

*/ /*

*/ /*

*/Readings for Technical Communication/* features an outstanding new
collection of fifty-four essays--nearly half of which were written by
Canadian scholars--that discuss the political, interpersonal, and
ethical demands of writing in a professional workplace. Combining the
personal and professional writing of theorists and practitioners,
*/Readings for Technical Communication/* anthologizes technical writing
articles while providing samples of technical writing itself.

Through thoughtful discussions of style, ethics, and the rhetoric of
professional writing, along with consideration of factors such as
situation, strategy, and credibility, */Readings for Technical
Communication/*/ /presents students with the most well-rounded
introduction to technical communication available today.

*Distinctive Features of /Readings// for Technical Communication/*

§ *Comprehensive coverage of key issues*. The text offers detailed
discussion of issues not usually covered in technical communication
texts, such as credibility, strategy, and ethics.

§ *Emphasis on rhetoric*. A discussion of the rhetoric of
professional writing affords students a broader understanding of what it
means to communicate effectively in both today's classroom and
tomorrow's workplace.

§ *Thought-provoking discussion questions*. Each essay is accompanied
by study questions intended to provoke thoughtful discussion and further
research.

§ *Classic and new material*. The essays have been carefully chosen
in order to create a perfect balance between well-known classics, formal
and informal pieces, and new readings written specifically for this
collection.

§ *Thematic organization. *The readings have been skillfully
organized by theme in order to provide a structure for discussion of a
broad range of issues within professional communication.**

§ *Stylistic variety. *The selections vary in style, formality,
perspective, audience, and focus, to introduce students to the widest
range of writing possible.**

§ *Canadian content. *The Canadian authorship of nearly half of the
collection's fifty-four essays provides an excellent conceptual backdrop
for understanding technical writing in a Canadian context.**

§ *Instructor materials. *The companion website features an
invaluable Instructor's Manual loaded with additional resources.* *
