Kadija,
Aslasm Alikum. To date there is no cure for Parkinsons disease. It is caused by loss of dopamine chemical in the brain. It can come from family (genetic) but also in young people common causes are drugs, head injury, loss of oxygen to the brain, and strokes at any age.
Parkinson's is a progressive disease, meaning it gets worse with time, despite patient efforts to be healthy.

My daughter is only 19 and has had PD for 4 years because she was run over and was not breathing for a couple minutes, also this injured her head. Her doctors are not very helpful.

Even though a cure has not yet been found, There are many new medicines that offer hope--the key is finding the right doctor who is caring. There are many support groups online, but I have found this mailing list to be more helpful than any other. You can help your brother by keeping him active and supervising a bit, letting him do as much as possible before you take over.

Sometimes it is harder to help a person do something than to do it yourelf. This is called facilitating, and you will become quite good at it. Start looking now at what family members or friends you trust because there are times you will need a break from each other. In 5 years I have spend one night only away from my daughter. You need a little more privacy than that. Inshallah, you will have family and friends around you at these times.

If treated promptly, he can learn new ways of doing old things that have become difficult. As his movements change, he can adapt somewhat but medical care is still needed.

I personally do not recommend driving, especially if he gets lost, or confused. Your brother's doctor should be sending him to a specialist very soon. Best of luck to you both. you can email me privately at [log in to unmask]
