Despite the efforts of so many people, the forces of ignorance and cruelty
have won in New Jersey! Whata way to enter the 21st century! We have all
the scientific sophistication of the 11th century!

Subject: [CAMR.friends] NJ Initiative Falls in State-Wide Rebuff on
Borrowing

The New Jersey stem cell initiative was defeated yesterday. The following
Newark Star Ledger article reports that the ballot initiative's defeat was
related to state-wide budget politics. According to the Associated Press,
with 95 percent of the precincts reporting, the initiative lost 47% to 53%
(575,618-647,228). Turnout was very low. The Governor's spokesperson said
last night (according to the NY Times), "Regardless of the outcome, New
Jersey will continue to create a climate where stem cell research can
thrive."
