Well, good luck in  purchasing your own health insurance!  The ordeals you
described seemed to me to make good arguments for universal health care.

The last time I paid my own way was in 1965-66 when I had my 2nd surgery for
arterio-venous fistulas (1st was when I was a grad student at UCLA).  I had
just started teaching and forgot to get signed up for health insurance.  I
cried in the hospital when I got the bill.  My surgeon let me pay him off at
$50 a month..  After several years I paid off my medical bills, but that was
1965!!!!

Even with insurance, today people are pauperized.  Who profits????

And, I do believe this discussion is relevant to PD.  Stay on that soapbox.
