Black tea didn't help my mother. She drank black tea daily. On a
larger scale; I've seen somewhere (J.J.?) that England, a nation of
tea drinkers, has a very high rate of Pd.
  That said, I suppose I should  try and find some facts. A BBC web
page reports that 1 in 500 Brits have Pd. This figure also appears in
the PDS website.
