date is flexible.
Best wishes,

The Writing Centre (TWC), part of Teaching and Learning Services (TLS)
at the University of Toronto Scarborough, invites applications for a
writing specialist at the rank of Lecturer. This is a one-year
non-renewable term position starting April 1, 2008 and ending March 31,
2009.

The Writing Specialist’s primary responsibility will be tutoring
students one-on-one. With guidance from the Writing Support coordinator,
the successful candidate will implement the TWC seminar program
including teaching seminars on various aspects of academic writing,
coordinate and develop instructional materials, and teach the summer
transition program. The Writing Specialist will also contribute to
Writing Support, English Language Development Support, and other TLS
projects.

Qualified candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to teaching
writing that includes familiarity with research-based best practices in
the field. When working with students, they will be stimulating,
compassionate, creative teachers, skilled at fostering student
independence. They must be comfortable with writing from a broad range
of academic disciplines, in a variety of classroom settings and
disciplines and working with students one-on-one. They will enjoy the
prospect of working in a highly collaborative, student-centred
environment with a focus on innovation and a diverse group of colleagues
and students. They will have strong organizational and time management
skills

Qualifications: advanced academic degree, preferably a Ph.D., in a
discipline relevant to the position. Experience teaching writing at the
university level, preferably in the context of a university writing
centre, and university classroom teaching experience, are essential.
Must enjoy working in teams and in diverse environments. Strong
organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to work
collaboratively are also essential. TESL training and experience would
be assets, as would familiarity with the UTSC curriculum and students,
with TWC programs, and with the Ontario high school curriculum.

Closing date for applications is March 7, 2008. This position starts
April 1, 2008 or soon thereafter and ends March 31, 2009. Questions
ahead of this deadline are encouraged and may be directed to
[log in to unmask], (416) 208-4767. Applicants should send a
curriculum vitae, examples of innovative writing and/or teaching

information of three referees to:
