Nigel, my husband Dick, who has PD, is going to physical therapy.  They are working on balance there with him and he is much improved.  He has been going since October.  My mother has drop attacks much as you describe.  She does not have PD and they have not found anything to help her yet.  She is scheduled for an MRI next week.
