Jean wants to raise public awareness about this terrible affliction so I am posting our conversations. FYI I found info on Waltz and lost it again. If I don't hear from people soon I don't have info at my fingertips.

Jean

My mother suffered from trigeminal neuralgia or tic doloreaux. it is a horrible malady. Right before she died in August 2003 she saw Dr. Thomas Waltz at Scripps Clinic in La Jolla California. The medication, Tegretol, only did so much and there were side effects. Often it failed to work.

Waltlz did my 2 DBSs but also was known for treating TN. In fact, somewhere I have a page on him and tic doloreaux, but I'm looking for it, I can't find it. He was 73 years old when he did my surgery - don't know if he is still practicing or not. Email me back if you can't contact Scripps, I know the info is here somewhere.

Hi My Name is Jean from BUFFALO
i am a fellow pwp and my friend
whom is also a pwp has a friend
who is having a tuff time battling
  "trigeminal neuralgia"
it claims to be one of THEY MOST
  PAINFUL brain disorders.
They say its like a "stabbing"
  or "shocklike" facial PAIN !
  Neuralgia is recognized as one
  of the MOST Excruciating forms
  of pain known.Its quality is
  "sharp" "stabbingg" "piercing"
  "burning",""like lightning" or
  like an "electric shock".
Now this is the part i'm
  concerned about,they say
  apprx 80& OF THE PATIENTS
are free of pain with medication
alone...hmm , do we have the
  right neurologist,??
thats' where i need alittle help
from MY Friends, Does anyone know of
a good NEURO WHO CAN HELP US??
THE PATIENT HAS BEEN THRU THE
GAMMA KNIFE AND I believe it is
  VMA?
We would be willing to go to the east coast
or west coast, (ie , CA & or MASSACHUSETTS)
  pt is reaching out for H E L P .

Thank you All for your attention to this matter.
