My husband, who was diagnosed nearly 7 years ago, has had a constipation
problem from almost the start. Apart from drinking a lot of water and
eating papaya (a fruit with very good laxative properties), he also has a
couple of teaspoons of a natural product called 'isabgol', which he finds
very helpful. He has the isabgol at night with some milk and honey.

Isabgol is the husk obtained from the Psyllium plant. It is obtained from
the seeds by milling and is mainly used as a bowel regulator. Isabgol
absorbs water and swells up to give increased bulk in the intestine. It also
increases the moisture content of the stools. It has been used in India for
centuries.
