Support group comes up with innovative awareness project Parkinson Society The Truro Daily News By Colin MacLean Truro Daily News TRURO - The next time you stop to smell the flowers around Bible Hill or Truro you might be in for a surprise. The Truro Parkinson Support Group will be planting five metal tulip trivets in flowerbeds throughout the village and town. Each tulip represents 100 Maritimers living with Parkinson's and is intended to be found by five lucky citizens. Each flower will give its finder a chance to win a prize package from Vesey's Seeds. Should anyone manage to find one of the tulips there will be attached instructions on how to register for a chance to win the prize. Communities across the Maritimes will be participating, as the hunt is the initiative of the Parkinson Society Maritime Region. "Every year they try to do something different ... this is what they came up with this year," said local Parkinson Society member Sharon Gates. Dubbed as the first Truro Tulip Quest, the event is held to raise awareness about the disease and also the society's upcoming Super Walk, which raises money for Parkinson's research. This year's walk will be held Sept. 13 and will leave from the Museum of Industry in Stellarton. Registration starts at 1 p.m. The walk begins at 2 p.m. Gates, along with other members of the society, may be planting the five flowers as early as this Saturday. The society also encourages whoever finds them to be responsible, treat them with respect and register their find. "I'm hoping the right people will get a hold of them," she said. Anyone looking for more information can call Jim or Sharon at 895-5227... but don't expect any hints of where to look.
