Indeed it is a dilemma. My husband was diagnosed while he was still working and we knew well that his employers would not look kindly on an employee with a disease like Parkinson's. So, while he was in service, no one except a few close friends and family knew about it. And yet, if we do not talk about it, the enormous ignorance about the illness remains.
