Cryo-Cell plans global expansion of stem cell service
Tampa Bay Business Journal - September 24, 2008
Cryo-Cell International Inc. said it has agreements to launch its
proprietary stem cell service in seven countries in Europe, Latin America
and Southeast Asia.
The service, C'elle, enables women to collect and cryopreserve stem cells
harvested from menstrual flow. The cells may potentially be used in a broad
range of future regenerative therapies to treat heart disease, stoke and
diabetes, said a release from Cryo-Cell.
Cryo-Cell said it has formalized agreement with C'elle distribution partners
in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Greece, Venezuela and Panama.
Cryo-Cell's technology license partner, LifeCell Private Ltd., previously
announced plans to introduce the C'elle service in India.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, although Cryo-Cell said
in the release that distribution of the service outside the United States
may potentially create new sources of revenue from technology license and
royalty fees, along with processing and storage revenue for the service.
Cryo-Cell (OTCBB: CCEL), based in Oldsmar, processes and stores umbilical
cord blood stem cells for family use.
