I'll second the comments made by Margaret, Shurli, and Julie-Ann. It seems 
to me that this direction might be very much in line with the "language 
learning" of CASLL's title. The emphasis, then, would be on how writers 
learn to use language appropriately in diverse situations (not necessarily 
excluding non-academic situations) rather than on the way language is used 
differently in diverse situations, the focus of many but not all CASDW 
presentations.
