hi brian, sorry for the delay in answering. you are right to worry about 
programming. this can be the most important phase for a successful outcome 
of dbs.
my husband had surgery in 2005. 3 yrs later after 2 revisions we are still 
trying to find an optimal setting. out of desperation i did quite a bit of 
research to locate dbs programmers in va and came across georgetown with an 
excellent program. since we are in southside va we decided to try duke first 
[been going there for the last couple of months]. if that does not work out 
soon we will be taking the 5 hour trip to georgetown. since it looks as if 
you are in northern va you might keep georgetown in mind if your original 
settings don't work out.
