Hello, Shan, Best wishes to your mum. The tendency among us persons who have PD is to slow down, and this has the physical effect of slowing our bodies down too, including circulation, breathing, metabolism, everything. Your mum's complaints might be the result of such a slowdown, and the treatment just might be something as simple as exercise, staying active, and getting out more, just as you've been encouraging your mum to do. Also good for depression. I know, as I've gone through my worst depression this past year, (my 8th with PD) and what helps me to feel better is to go out for a brisk walk, or to do some yoga, or to talk to someone with an uplifting spirit. It's also good to be with loved ones. Keep up the good work of simply being with your mum and encouraging other family to do the same. Always take medical advice with skepticism, and consult your doctors for their professional input. DBS stands for Deep Brain Stimulation surgery. It has shown strong positive results in relieving the symptoms of PD. Of course there is still no known cure. Put "Deep Brain Stimulation" in your search engine and I'm sure you will find a mountain of info. Enjoy! My mum was diagnosed with PD in 2001. And Hi Brian, What is DBS? My mum was diagnosed with PD in 2001. And yes, she underwent depression too. It takes a lot of encourgaement, care and concern from the family members to see her through. I mean, who won't be depress when you were once so mobile. I had to drag her out of the house by bringing my niece and nephews along. Else, she would rather stay in her comfort zone. By the way, do PD patients have a tendency to feel cold? Cos my mum complains of unbearable cold whenever she visits air-conditioned places. And whoever said that here was no correlation between depression an d PD is full of it because they don't have this decease which makes us outcasts in our own society because we have a tendency to try to live our life as Zombies. Because for many years I have felt like the living dead trying to earn a decent living for my family but kept being let go because I was a little slower that most people. YES for dbs Wishing everyone out there the very best and much love to all this holiday season Brian Ely Fredericksburg, Va. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off Parkinsn send a message to: mailto:[log in to unmask] In the body of the message put: signoff parkinsn ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off Parkinsn send a message to: mailto:[log in to unmask] In the body of the message put: signoff parkinsn ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off Parkinsn send a message to: mailto:[log in to unmask] In the body of the message put: signoff parkinsn
