Arts Studies in Writing

 

INSTRUCTOR I (Tenure-track teaching position)   The Faculty of Arts at
the University of British Columbia invites applications for a
tenure-track position at the rank of Instructor I. The successful
candidate will be appointed to a department within the Faculty of Arts
and their teaching will be seconded to Arts Studies in Writing.  In
addition, they will serve as Chair of Arts Studies in Writing for an
initial term of five years, with possibility of renewal. As Chair, the
Instructor will co-ordinate the first-year component of the Faculty's
new Writing and Research degree requirements; collaborate with faculty
in developing upper-year Writing-Intensive courses; develop courses and
TA training programs to support degree requirements and future
initiatives; and teach five courses per year (the normal 7-course
teaching load is reduced to 5 while the appointee serves as Chair). 

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in hand or be near completion, in rhetoric,
writing, discourse studies, or a related area. Providing leadership to
the Faculty of Arts in its commitment to undergraduate education at a
major research-intensive university, the appointee will have a strong
record of effective, innovative teaching in writing in the disciplines
and be thoroughly familiar with current research in the field. The
successful candidate will be expected to maintain an excellent record of
teaching and service. This is a tenure-track position, and tenure will
be granted principally on the basis of performance in teaching. This
position is subject to final budgetary approval. Salary will be
commensurate with experience.   Applications to include a letter of
