Yes, this is the case in Arizona. Right-wing religious folks control the state government. I learned too late it has been part of their plan since Reagan was president to take over state governments and local school boards (so creationism would be taught in science classes). Battle lines were drawn long ago and I should have known having been a Republican but I was busy teaching school. Don't underestimate these people again.
