As far as I know Montana is the first state to ban therapeutic cloning. Stay tuned as states work to ban ESCR. Ray MT anti-cloning measure signed into law A bill to ban human reproductive cloning has been signed into law by Governor Schweitzer. Reproductive cloning is when cloned cells are implanted for pregnancy purposes and it differs from therapeutic cloning which would replace specific cells with cloned stem cells to cure certain illnesses. The bill was amended to take out a therapeutic cloning provision before coming to the Governor. House Bill 288 provides penalties for human cloning and also prohibits embryonic stem cell research from cells with a clone origin.
