Graham, you also assimilated the wonderful sense of nuanced
messaging [reading the last sentence] while maintaining direct
communication. This convergence would leave Hofstede and Hall quite
contented with their conceptualization of "worldview" East/West.

Festival [Winter Break] if you want a change of venue.
I really like the Inkshed. It assisted my research. I felt no
need to reconsider the appropriateness of my research to the
conference "theme". It is rather open-ended... I hope. Some appeared
to want to explore and have fun [enlightening and entertaining].
Presentations are a mix of pros and novices. Welcome is writ large on
the mat and the critiques are direct, informative and designed to
assist and re-problematize issues. My sample is small, me, one event,
as China does not allow for the same semester system and conference
season --- in so far as I am aware.
I like Inkshed as a venue for inkshedding on issues of interest to
the membership. In China, according to the textologists, the students
are uneasy and feel threatened if some authority figure does not pick
[i.e. validate, endorse, authorize] the topic for the student. This
appears to me to be part of the issue. How do you validate what is to
follow, if you do not wish to constrain creativity, collegiality and
synergy? I do not have an answer.
There may be a marketing issue here.
If I have the answer after my presentation in Beijing in June to
the International Intercultural Communication Association, etc I'll
update the post.
