            With the arrival of summer weather, parks, bike trails and neighborhood pools are teeming with people.  Among those starting or renewing exercise regimes are people living with Parkinson's disease.

            Research shows that many kinds of exercise contribute to the well-being of those battling Parkinson's, not only strengthening the body but improving the mind and moods.  It can also enhance motor function while reducing some troubling physical symptoms.

            Aquatic exercise helps people living with Parkinson's to feel stronger and more in control.  APDA and the Aquatic Exercise Association (AEA) are proud to offer their booklet on these water exercises. Learn more about this booklet, and find out how you can obtain a copy for yourself.

            Cycling Benefits Those With Parkinson's Disease

            A doctor at the Cleveland Clinic found a new line of research while riding that proverbial "bicycle built for two" with a friend who has Parkinson's.  Watch a video about new research on the benefits of cycling on Parkinson's disease symptoms.

            Chemical Exposure Found to Increase Risk of Parkinson's

            Researchers found that long-term exposure to a combination of two agricultural chemicals significantly increases the risk of Parkinson's.  Their work shows that the fungicide maneb and the herbicide paraquat can trigger a neurodegenerative process in humans. Read what researchers learned.









           
           
            Summertime and Parkinson's disease


            Get out and enjoy the summer weather.  Walk with your friends, ride a tandem bike, swim a few laps, or work in your garden.  Don't forget sunscreen and take care around pesticides and garden chemicals.

            News for Veterans Living with Parkinson's Disease

            Certain veterans who served in Vietnam and later developed Parkinson's disease are the subject of a bill in the House of Representatives.  H.R. 1428 would provide wartime disability compensation to veterans exposed to herbicides (Agent Orange and others) during military service.  Learn more about H.R. 1428.
