(NBC) - A new study suggests a link between pesticides and Parkinson's
disease.
That confirms previous research.
Researchers studied the blood of Parkinson's patients, and compared it to
healthy adults, and those with Alzheimer's.
They found 76 percent of Parkinson's disease patients had detectable levels of
beta-HCH in their blood, a type of pesticide.
This compares to 40 percent of healthy adults, and 30 percent of Alzheimer's
patients.
Experts said many of these pesticides were used in the 1950's through the
70's, but they are tightly controlled now.
The Parkinson's patients were likely exposed in their 20's and 30's.
