Charlie: The "Progressives" I am talking about were Democratic and Republican reformers of the "Progressive Era" in American History. A "progressive" Republican Senator from Kansas, Joseph Bristow, proposed the direct election of senators in 1911. In 1913 it was finally passed despite opposition of most Republicans due to support of Senator William Borah of Idaho. Don't you think it was a good idea or do you want to repeal it and go back to the state legislatures electing our senators? I gave it as an exception to my claim that Republicans have done nothing to promote the general welfare since the Civil War. I never intermixed progressives and liberals. Republican trust-buster President Teddy Roosevelt was a progressive who formed the Bull Moose or Progressive Party. Today, most liberals have adopted the term "progressive" since "liberal" has become a dirty word. I agree with Van Jones idea that 9/11 might have been an inside job. I am waiting for these great Republican ideas. Charlie, I am not making things up. I've spent my life studying and teaching history. Even art history and can tell you Glenn Beck's recent rant on Rockefeller Center art was ridiculous. He even characterized Robber Baron John D. Rockefeller as a progressive. He is a high school graduate and deranged fool, completely unqualified to speak about anything. Are you going to instruct me as to what a progressive is???
