Thanks for the excellent article, Ray. When health care reform is discussed, everyone seems to ignore the elephant in the room - tort reform. The reason that Americans undergo so many unnecessary tests (which are very expensive) is to prevent the attending physician from getting sued. Until malpractice insurance is brought into line and awards for malpractice are reduced, medical care will remain exceedingly high. If our government is truly interested in providing decent health care, education of potential physicians should be subsidized (as it is in other countries). One of the reasons that doctors charge so much is because medical school costs in excess of $100,000 and malpractice insurance fees are astronomical. Producing more doctors and paying for their education should be an essential part of any health care reform bill. --------- Mary Ann (CG Jamie 68/28 with PD, died 11/20/07) www.bentwillowfarm.org ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off Parkinsn send a message to: mailto:[log in to unmask] In the body of the message put: signoff parkinsn
