Thanks, John.

Sorry about all the trouble and I hope those, who didn't need the money, were not connected with the attorneys mentioned in your email. I really didn't understand why your are an economic refugee or what that means, but I thank you for your hard work in behalf of people with Parkinson Disease.
Elaine, cp of Dick with PD and LBD.

Subject: Parkinsn Copyright Issues Explained

Barbara Patterson and I and the University of Toronto provide a place for neurological challenged persons to network. For Barbara and I it is and will continue to be a "labor of love". We have a sponsor on the faculty at the University of Toronto who has no connection to Parkinsn.

Last year about November I received an email from an attorney of a publisher saying that we unlawfully published one of their works and archived it. They demanded a cease and desist and its removal.

Utoronto maintains an archive of every messages posted to Parkinsn. The Parkinsn website does also.

I prompted edited the offended email from a member and advised the attorney within hours. I thought it was over.

This Spring the Utoronto tried to contact Barbara and I with no success due to computer failure here in the Philippines and at Barbara's. The Listserv Manager became involved along with Parkinsn's faculty adviser.

The manager became involved with the copyright holder and it looked to them we weren't doing a good job holding the Utoronto harmless.

To make a long story short, my left DBS quit working and it was difficult typing with one hand flopping around on the keyboard.

I sent the Utoronto all the correspondence I had with the attorney and my immediate compliance with the archive on the website here. We were at loggerheads who was responsible to edit the listserv messages in question. With great difficulty due to the lack of dexterity I edited the messages.

Those of you that have become acquainted with me over the years know that my frank manner gets me into trouble. In the end, in order to save our Parkinsn home I kissed the ring of our friends at Utoronto and promised to never again transgress.

COPYRIGHT

Our community is thirsty for news but we have a dilemma, we cannot post verbatim news articles and still be responsible for copyright.

Posting of an analysis or opinion about a news article and providing a link to that story is permitted.

Long addresses do not translate well in a text environment like we have in Parkinsn. TinyURL.com will shorten the address. If you post a lot, put a link on your browser that will shorten it so that it doesn't wrap in email.

My job here is purely technical but occasionally follow a thread and when no one is offended and emails me I let things go.

Everyone of you are appreciated and we all have down days and there are some who were hard to deal with before they became diagnosed. Some have a pile of money and others sleep under the bridge. Hopes and dreams abound for all just different priorities. My money went to those who didn't need it so instead of fighting for a piece of cardboard to lay my head on sleeping under a bridge I became an economic refugee and have never looked back.

If you have a pile of money spend it, let the kids make their own destiny. For those of us that have nothing but dreams, maybe we will see better days. That's what hope is about.
