A worthless article which tells a person who may have Parkinson's nothing.
It presumes:

1. That a putative PWP knows how to distinguish between a PD Movement
Disorder Specialist and an everyday Neurologist who likely knows just enough to
be dangerous

2. That whatever is physically bothering the putative PWP is known or
suspected by him/her
to be a PD symptom. Mine started as most did, with tremor. I had no idea
at that time that I
might have a Disease let alone a Neurological disease. I went to my
internist who knew enough to send me to a Neuro who gave me a drug
(unfortunately, I don't remember it's name) which he said would halt tremor caused by
Essential Tremor but not if caused by PD. It didn't halt the tremor so it
wasn't ET. Then he gave me Sinemet and it halted the tremor so he ruled that I
had PD in it's infant visible stages. So far, so good for a local Neuro.
Then he prescribed 4 Sinemet 50/200 per day. What a foolish initial
prescription. I had meanwhile joined this list and otherwise read myself silly (score
one for the Internet), and discovered not only that the initial dose was
too high but that it would be better to start on a Dopamine Agonist if it
worked and I could tolerate it. I suggested that to my Neuro and he said OK,
that's interesting, let's try it. Anyone hearing a lesson coming out of
that story?

By the way, the first thing I read was a book by a Dr. and his wife, an
RN, (should I have said "a RN"), which discussed many diseases. Don't really
remember the title....something like 'A prescription for Nutritional
Healing". Whatever. I may even have written previously
about this on the list. In any event, they said that PWP usually die after
7 years. That was my first exposure after diagnosis to anything written.
Needless to say I went into a funk until I read more writings and discussed
it with the Neuro. I then wrote an extremely angry letter to the Publisher
and waddya know, the next edition of the book eliminated that statement.

All the above suggesting that someone called 'Doctor' doesn't know it all
and we have to be pro-active in our own health lives. This List helps
accomplish that goal.
