        Greetings!
Here's a unique and critical opportunity to add your voice and DNA to better understand how genetics and the environment play a role in Parkinson's disease.

The 23andMe Parkinson's Community combines the power of the Internet with genetic analysis in an unprecedented manner. The goal is 10,000 patients participating. There are currently over 3,000 signed up.

Normally a 23andMe genetic analysis costs $500. But they are offering a special discounted fee of $25 to the Parkinson's patient community. The fee is necessary to help insure that only PD patients participate. With the fee and a sample of your saliva, you become a member in the largest PD research study ever conducted.

Why participate? Here's what you get:
Rewriting what researchers know about how genetics and the environment influence PD.
Going beyond state and country borders to welcome and test participants from the PD community from around the world.
Participate in a ground breaking study from the comfort of your own home.
Expanding your PD community to include 9,999 other friends with Parkinson's.

Historically, it has been a challenge for scientists to assemble and study populations of more than a couple of hundred individuals. The aim of this study is to assemble a much larger and diverse patient population - at least 10,000 individuals - that is available for ongoing research, surveys and information. This is critical for magnifying the data contributed by each individual into a clear and readable signal that will allow scientists to push PD genetics closer to practical ways to treat or prevent the disease.

      Does it hurt? No!

      1) Request a discount code at www.23andme.com/pd/codereq. An email with your discount code will then be sent to you.

      2) Once you have received your discount code, order a Spit Kit from the online store. Go to www.23andme.com/pd and enter your discount code in the field on the right side of the page.

      3) When your kit arrives, follow the instructions, spit into the tube, and send it to the lab.

      4) Log into your account and complete your initial online surveys.

In approximately 4 weeks your genetic data will be available in your account. Over time, you'll receive emails to let you know about new surveys and update you on our research progress.

This will be the largest collection of Parkinson's patient data ever gathered.

Please consider being a part of this groundbreaking study to push forward our knowledge in environment, genetics and its role in Parkinson's disease. And if you know others in the community that would want to toss their hat (saliva?) in the ring, please forward this to them as well.

Thank you for taking a role in improving the life of those touched by Parkinson's. I truly appreciate it.

      Bill
