Thanks Ray. I read the treatment guidelines in Neurology and was surprised they only throw more drugs at the secondary symptoms. Our support group recently heard a local dietician speak about simple diet changes that could help prevent and alleviate constipation, by increasing dietary fiber, She suggested foods like hi-fiber whole wheat bread, adding beans to salads, substituting oranges and other fruits for orange juice. Dietician Kathrynn Holden has written extensively on diet and PD (including a book on PD and constipation) and has a nutrition discussion group on the NPF website. see http://forum.parkinson.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=4 Her books are shown on http://www.nutritionucanlivewith.com/index.html Clearly doctors don't have this information and rarely advise on nutrition. It seems Dieticians should be included on Parkinson's treatment teams ---------- Original Message ---------- From: rayilynlee <[log in to unmask]> To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Relief for Secondary Parkinson's Symptoms Date: Tue, 16 Mar 2010 22:40:21 -0700 Ray Rayilyn Brown Past Director AZNPF Arizona Chapter National Parkinson Foundation From: Diane Wyshak Sent: Tuesday, March 16, 2010 4:42 PM To: ray ; Dr. Kong ; don reed Subject: Relief Sought for Secondary Parkinson's Symptoms - Yahoo!
