Like most of the claims of opponents of embryonic stem cell research this is a gross exaggeration, if not outright falsehood. There are no cord blood treatments for any of these diseases. On February 10, 2010 the FDA approved the first clinical trial of children's own cord blood cells for cerebral palsy. Claiming "treatment" is a bit premature as trial does not equal treatment. I follow the stem cell research issue closely and have never heard of reputable scientists suggesting cord blood might be used treatments for Parkinson's, let alone Alzheimer's disease. There are more promising research alternatives. While the Celebration Stem Cell Centre may someday yield benefits, it is wrong too suggest that it puts Arizona on the "cutting edge" of stem cell research. Arizona continues to be an educational and scientific backwater.
