I also believe that the best effect of mucuna is other than that of l-dopa. I take one mucuna (400 m g) a couple of hours before going to bed --and again one if I awaken too early in the morning (no MAOI scrutiny). 

In addition to producing a brief l-dopa effect, mucuna seems to have two or three other effects within me. It keeps me limber. And it promotes good sleep. I also feel as it it lowers the content of l-dopa, or levels off, gently in the evening. It may be the reason as to why I feel I sleep better, falling into deep sleep and staying there. It does not matter even if it happened to be a placebo effect! It works for me.

I do not have scientific evidence to justify this (I wish someone would study it in a clinical setting). I just go by how I feel.

I was under the impression that India is the country where mucuna pruriens is really used...
