This month's Wired magazine's cover story is about Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google, and how he is putting $50 million into Parkinson's research.
The article says that he is likely the first person who has donated money for disease research without first having been diagnosed with the disease. He had his DNA tested and he has an LRRK2 mutation which gives him a higher risk of developming Parkinsons in his lifetime. He figured that he would try to stop the disease before it gets to him.
The good news is that he is funding research that may speed-up development of a cure since he is doing it the "Google" way by obtaining a ton of info and looking for patterns in the data.
