DBS  is NOT for enhancing the voice, in fact it does just the opposite, but 
it does reduce other Parkinson's symptoms, tremor and bradykinesia.
Not being able to talk is the trade-off I make for being able to walk.  When 
the stimulators died in August life was impossible.

I was 67 when I had these surgeries; am now 74.  I was diagnosed almost 15 
years ago.  It does sound like he may be too old as you must be awake for 
the 6 hour DBS brain surgery which may be too much for some people and you 
do need to understand what it is for and that is NOT the voice.
