I don't know about any private policy, but I did succeed, with the help of a lawyer who specializes, in applying for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). It was pretty predictable and took about seven months. It often takes much longer, and you can pretty much count on being denied in your initial claim. You'll have to come up with enough paperwork to turn a dozen squirrels out from their homes and wear out your sneakers and you'll have to enlist the help of your doctors who can document the nature, severity, and dates of your disability. But if and when you get it, you sometimes get a first payment which covers the time between your application and your approval. I however, did not get a retroactive check, because evidence as we presented it indicated that I had only just become "totally" disabled. For me, the lawyer was a good way to go, because my mental acuity and motivation have been compromised in these last few years. (diagnosed in 2001, now 57 years old.) Good luck. Does anyone have experience on this issue? I am in my early 60's and find that my Parkinson symptoms are making it increasingly difficult to perform my job satisfactory. Most of the problems are not physically visible: tremor is slight, but the toe and leg cramps are often unbearable, good night sleep is rare and thus constant fatigued and depressed. I have worked for the same organization for over 25 years and paid for disability insurance every pay period. I am trying to decide if I qualify to claim disability or if I need to take early retirement. Thank you for your advice, Angie ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off Parkinsn send a message to: mailto:[log in to unmask] In the body of the message put: signoff parkinsn ---------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off Parkinsn send a message to: mailto:[log in to unmask] In the body of the message put: signoff parkinsn
