Well Rayilyn, I've been on Sinemet For 34 years. Sometimes it works sometimes it don't as you probably know. I suffered from PD since i was 25. It took drs, 5 years to diagnose it, so i was 30 when i started on Sinemet. Then i had a palidotomy on one side in 1996. I was in a nursing home for 5 years . From 2000 until 2005. then went back independent living I do the best i can sometimes not too good then somtimes fair. From what I have heard and read from being on this List 10 years, 5 years is about average, but one person reported many years and it could have been 30. I'm sure you know we are all different with respect to response to drugs and rate of disease progression, so I guess there is no one size fits all answer. Does this apply to higher doses also? A. This is a myth. Levodopa is highly effective for many years, and its loss of efficacy has more to do with the progression of the disease than with the duration of treatment. Not all symptoms of PD respond to levodopa, and over time those symptoms become more prominent.
