Mankind DVD featuring a discussion with Carl Heap, founder of Medieval
Players available on request.

Dr Philip Crispin's recent production of Mankind has been professionally
filmed and is now available.

As a learning and teaching resource, the DVD explores Mankind from
linguistic, social, political and religious perspectives. As well as
focusing on theatre history and on how to interpret the play, the DVD and
accompanying material facilitate discussions around how to play and stage
Mankind.

Key areas of analysis include: festive drama; French and English theatre
traditions; the clashing liturgical and carnivalesque discourses in the play
and their influence on playing styles and language; the morality genre and
psychomachia; ritual, symbolism and iconography; costume and stripping;
medieval playing spaces; the actor-audience relationship; stage devils and
vices; the dramatic figures within the play.

Colleagues interested in acquiring a copy are warmly invited to contact Dr
