i went for my pre surgey checkup today and chatted to the nurse  practitioner about this new procedure which she has witnesssed several times. there are some drawbacks ,she said. the mere fact that  you are asleep, means that you cannot inter act with the surgeon so he has to rely on the picture from the mri to place the electrodes. as she puts it, a machine is not as reliaable in this context as a human  being..still she says it has great possibilities just being under anaesthetic for a shorter time is less stressful to the body.

Last I heard there was a 6-week queue for the MRI machine at my local hospital, so doing 
operations in it may be impractical.
