John you will find a different combination of medication recommended
by every person with PD. What works for one does not always work for
someone else.
Stalevo is two pills combined in one; Sinemet and Comtan.
I was diagnosed in 1994 at age 42. My meds for about the last 15 years
has been Sinemet CR 200/50 four tablets per day. This worked fine but
gradually my symptoms became worse until about 4 months ago when I had
to use a walking frame to get along in shopping malls. I increased my
Sinemet to 5 daily, but this increased my dyskinesias significantly! I
tried Comtan with my Sinemet CR and didn't notice any difference to my
condition. I tried Eldepryl and later, Azilect, and they made me feel
irritable and thickheaded. The only difference I noticed was in my
online Chess games. I started loosing more!
Then I tried Symmetrel (Amantidine), and was reborn!
Suddenly I can wash and dry myself, cut my own food, walk without a
frame, type, effortlessly turn around at night, etc. etc.
I now take a Symmetrel and SinemetCR(200/50) at 7am. SinemetCR at
noon. Symmetrel at 14h00. SinemetCR at 17h00, and a SinemetCR at
22h00.
Good luck and have fun experimenting;-)
