Dear CASLL colleagues:

The Inkshed newsletter is back on the newsstands! Actually, it's now in
a new website of its own that combines the nimbleness of blog software
with the capacity for stable pages and handsome formatting. Go to
www.inkshed.ca/blog to view the whole site. There are already some
informative and opinionated blog postings -- waiting for responses and
additions.

And then start enjoying the first issue of the new Inkshed newsletter:

  * Susan Drain
<http://www.inkshed.ca/blog/newsletter/january-2012-newsletter/minutes-may-2011/>
    opens by presenting the minutes of the May 2011 meeting in
    Fredericton, where a roomful of people committed themselves to
    continuing and expanding the tradition of informal Inkshed
    conferences and other opportunities for interaction and discussion
    -- all under the aegis of the Canadian Association for the Study of
    Language and Learning (CASLL).

* Theresa Hyland
<http://www.inkshed.ca/blog/newsletter/january-2012-newsletter/writing-changing-environment/>
    expands on her remarks at the CASDW 2011 conference about the need
    for Canadian writing programs to adapt to, and shape, new conditions
    for teaching. She notes several trends and their accompanying
    challenges, and asks for further commentary and views.

* Jean Mason, Janice Fung, and Wendy Freeman
<http://www.inkshed.ca/blog/newsletter/january-2012-newsletter/interconnectivity-and-interdisciplinarity/>
    provide an exemplar of innovation in their account of the inventive
    course structures for the new Masters of Professional Communication
    program at Ryerson University. They note their own collaboration as
    teachers, outline the combinations of theory and practice that
    underpin the program, and describe their students’ use of new media,
    with links to some fascinating samples.

* Carl Leggo
<http://www.inkshed.ca/blog/newsletter/january-2012-newsletter/three-poems-carl-leggo/>
    rounds out the set with three poems about language and meaning.
    Enjoy their wit and savour their insight!

Each blog posting and newsletter article includes a Reply box where you
