I, too, saw the Dr. Oz show where I thought he said 95% of the Seretonin is
manufactured in the gut -- I didn't hear Melatonin.

Interesting!  I haven't checked it out yet but yesterday I was  watching 
Dr. Oz and he had a guest on who said the same thing.  He was  talking about

Melatonin and it has been found that it is not produced in the  brain but in

the stomach.

Braak has been working for more than a decade on his hunch that PD is caused

by some ŽinfectionŽ of the gut ( bacterial, prionic, or other).
In fact more and more it is thought that a lot of neurodegenerative diseases

stem from some sort of infection that triggers an immune response that
damages 
the STN. Other factors like predisposition would come into play
