I thought that till I caught a toe on the edge of a rug.  The toe is still sore & the edge of the rug is damaged.  (plus sooner or later you're going to 
step on something sharp - or worse, squishy !  (A friend of mine trod on his goldfish when he got up one morning - the fish had committed suicide
 in the night and he said it spoilt his whole day. The fish's day too, presumably.)
