Dear Inkshedders:

The second issue of the new Inkshed Newsletter is just out, at
http://www.inkshed.ca/blog/newsletter/inkshed-newsletter-2/. The five
articles offer lots to think about and enjoy, with topics ranging from
the worth of poetry-writing to the nature and value of writing studies
in Canada.

Andrea Williams
<http://www.inkshed.ca/blog/newsletter/inkshed-newsletter-2/review-writing-knowledge-societies/>
has written the first published review of a new collection on the place
of writing in the knowledge society; Doug Brent
<http://www.inkshed.ca/blog/newsletter/inkshed-newsletter-2/rolling-the-rock/>
follows with thoughts (he says curmudgeonly, I say stimulating) about
the state of writing instruction in Canada; Leora Freedman
<http://www.inkshed.ca/blog/newsletter/inkshed-newsletter-2/mud-ball-reflections-on-teaching-critical-thinking/>
tells a thought-provoking story about using a strange piece of
contemporary art to elicit real discussion in the classroom; Carl Leggo
<http://www.inkshed.ca/blog/newsletter/inkshed-newsletter-2/a-poem-by-carl-leggo/>
gives us a poem about poetry and a reflection on what it's worth; and
Nancy Johnston
<http://www.inkshed.ca/blog/newsletter/inkshed-newsletter-2/poet-in-community-and-poet-in-conference-ronna-bloom/>
tells us about a poet who represents a new way of teaching writing and
creativity.

Please use the Reply box that follows each article to continue the
discussion -- or write new articles yourself for the next issue of our
publication. Thanks to the authors, the review panel, and the site
designer Tania Smith for their contributions to this issue.

Best,
Margaret Procter,
Moderator, Inkshed Newsletter.
