NIH at Risk for Significant Budget Hit: Fiscal Year 2013 Federal Budget Appropriations Update
The Fiscal Year (FY) 2013 federal budget is moving through the appropriations process on Capitol Hill, and the Parkinson's community needs to be prepared to fight. Why? This week, the U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations Committee released its FY 2013 funding allocations – the maximum spending amount allowed for each federal department – including the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The Committee set top-line FY 2013 funding for the Departments of Labor and HHS at $150 billion. This is $7.7 billion lower than the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee-approved FY 2013 spending level. More...

Parkinson's Institute's Langston and Tanner Honored
The Parkinson's Institute's CEO, Dr. J. William Langston, and Director of Clinical Research, Dr. Caroline M. Tanner, were honored this month for their work in the Parkinson's disease field. Langston was awarded the Robert M. Pritzker Award by The Michael J. Fox Foundation for his lifetime leadership in the Parkinson's disease field. He serves on PAN's Honorary Council. Tanner was awarded the 2012 Movement Disorders Research Award by the American Academy of Neurology (AAN). Click here to learn more about these prestigious awards and their recipients.
Parkinson's Awareness Month
On Thursday, March 29, the United States Senate declared the month of April Parkinson's Awareness Month. The Parkinson's community has been working hard all month to raise awareness and educate the public about Parkinson's disease, and the need for strong federal funding and policy support. Check out PAN's website to see state and local proclamations PAN advocates received in April.
